Your child will need to read for 15 minutes and write down what was read on the reading log. If it is a book you read aloud to your child, please make a note of that. I encourage you to read together. If there are words that your child CAN read, please make sure they TRY to read it. If the book is too difficult, and you would like a book they can read on their own, please let me know. I am happy to send home books, if needed.
You will be receiving a math contract that will have 12 choices on the sheet. The sheet will cover three weeks of work.
I will also send home a list of words for your child to work on remembering. They are sight words, and should be flashed quickly to your child. This should take no longer than one minute. What we are looking for is called "automaticity," which simply means automatic recall of the word. Being able to call the word instantly builds your child's ability to read smoothly. Additionally, the word wall words that have been coming home are also words that they need to be able to spell. I realize most students can read the words without difficulty. Please make sure they practice spelling the words as well.
I will be pulling each child to determine their progress on the Fry word list very soon (probably Monday). Once I determine their next words, a new list may be coming home. If it not a new list, it will have new words highlighted. :)
